Magnaels
In The Magnet of Marjon, magnaels are ancient creatures of rock and crystal, with eagle-shaped heads and vast manta-like wings stretched with shimmering magnetic membranes. They do not fly like ordinary beasts. They ride the invisible currents of the Fault Lines.
Born of Stone, Crystal, and Current
They do not beat their wings in the way birds do. Instead, they glide. They never venture into the Ferro Barrens.
To see a magnael descend is to see the world’s broken forces made graceful — stone and crystal moving through the sky with the calm certainty of something older than cities, tribes, or war.
Crystal-Bodied
Magnaels carry bodies of stone and crystal, catching light in sharp flashes of blue, gold, and white.
Ancient
Magnaels seem to recognize forces deeper than speech — the hum of the Fault Lines, and those connected to it.
Why They Matter
For Gideon, the magnaels are not merely creatures to be ridden. They are connected to the same deep hum that runs through the Fault Lines and through the strange power waking inside him. When they turn toward him, it is not obedience. It is recognition.
